Simulations representing the movement of hypothetical surface oil spills using the Parcels software (https://oceanparcels.org/). Two spill locations are provided, corresponding to the anchorage areas for the Port of Ngqura, Algoa Bay, where ship to ship bunkering is permitted. Only one spill time is provided, and the duration of the spill is assumed to be three hours. The spills are represented as an assemblage of lagrangian particles which are advected horizontally by a combination of surface currents (from the output of the Algoa Bay high resolution CROCO model) and 3% of the 10 m winds (from the Global Forecast System). Such predictions are intended to provide input toward the management of bunkering operations and assist in mitigation efforts in the event of future spill events.
